Shrove Tuesday Activities

Shrove Tuesday

Shrove Tuesday, which is also known as Pancake Tuesday is celebrated on the day before Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, which is a time of repentance, fasting and the preparation for the coming of Easter.

This year, Shrove Tuesday falls on 28th February. It has been celebrated for centuries, and will continue to be celebrated. Pancakes have been traditionally eaten on Shrove Tuesday in order to use up foods like eggs and milk before the 40-day fasting period of Lent begins.

There are so many ways we can celebrate Shrove Tuesday. We've given you a sneak peak of some great activities and resources you can do with your class, and/or children at home.

1. Present an assembly. Assemblies are always popping up every week at school and we have the perfect pack for you! This Pancake Day Assembly Pack introduces Pancake Day to your children using a presentation and script. Everything is there and ready to go, so you don't have to organise anything. Perfect.

2. Cook Up. Make Tuesday a morning where you and your teaching staff do a big Pancake Cook Up. We have lots of display pictures and recipes that you could use to decorate your cooking area. Hire a BBQ and set up a table with plastic plates, forks, maple syrup, lemon and even some strawberries. You could even ask the students to make a gold coin donation, of $1 or $2 that could go towards a charity of your choice.

What better way to do this than to create some wonderful artworks with these Pancake Day Mindfullness Colouring Pages. Hang them up around your school or classroom to acknowledge the day that has been.

4. Art and Craft Pancake Day Felt Faces. Love art and craft? Well then you definitely cannot go past this great Pancake Day Felt Faces activity where children can create their own felt face that resembles a pancake.
