Twinkl Supports Mark Beaumont in 80 Days World Cycle

Twinkl is proud to announce that we are supporting cyclist star Mark Beaumont, best known for cycling around the world in 194 days in 2008,  in another endurance challenge to circumnavigate the globe in less than half that time!

Mark will be attempting to travel 18,000 miles around the world, starting from Paris on Sunday 2nd July. As a warm up to the Artemis World Cycle, he will first cycle around the coastline of Britain leaving on the 4th April. The 3,500 miles, 15 day training ride will be at 80 days pace, with Mark cycling for 16 hours and 240 miles per day.

"This is a culmination of the past two decades, since i was a 12 year old boy cycling across Scotland, " says Mark, "I would love for this journey to give people the confidence to take on what they are capable of, for young people in particular to stop and think, "what's my 80 days"?

At Twinkl, we think the learning potential surrounding this world record attempt is huge, and we've already created some amazing resources to accompany Marks' cycle that you can see here - a collection of lessons and activities to inspire children across the world.

When Mark's world cycle kicks off in July, we'll be tracking Mark on our social media channels with teaching materials that are reactive to Mark's experiences. As that will be the last month of term in England and Wales, it's a great opportunity to take part in a global project and find out more about the world we live in. Scottish schools can pick up Mark's adventures when he is well under way on his route at the start of school year in August.

We also invite you all to think of your own 80 Day Challenge - set some personal goals and see what you can achieve!
