Every year in January the townspeople of Lerwick, Shetland celebrate Up Helly Aa. A procession of people take to the streets wielding flaming torches for to celebrate Shetland history. The procession culminates with the ceremonial burning of a life size replica of a Viking longship built especially for the occasion. There is also plenty of dancing, performing and general celebrating.
