News Compulsory setting: schools face being forced to separate pupils by ability

Education secretary expected to enforce setting in England by asking Ofsted to make it a condition of being rated outstandingCompulsory setting according to ability in England's secondary schools is to be proposed by the education secretary, Nicky Morgan, in her first big initiative since she took the role in July. She is due to make the announcement as early as today.The announcement, cleared with Downing Street, is likely to create a backlash as well as raise questions as to how the plan is to be enforced legally, since independent state academies were set up to be free of state control.
