News Labour plans new grade of 'master teachers'

Tristram Hunt says scheme would boost career structure and improve teacher retentionA new elite grade of "master teachers" would be established in all state schools under a Labour government as part of a drive to raise standards, boost incentives and ensure that more top performers remain in the classroom.Under the plans the new top tier of teachers could be awarded higher salaries by headteachers and would be regarded as the "gold standard" in a profession that many see as lacking an adequate career structure.
