News Snap Ofsted inspections: are they a good idea?

The 'Trojan horse' row in Birmingham has prompted the government to order Ofsted inspections at no notice. What effect would this have? Following allegations that a number of schools in Birmingham have been influenced by Islamic extremists, David Cameron has announced proposals to introduce snap Ofsted inspections in schools.The prime minister argued that the intervention was necessary because the schools had been able to "cover up" because they had been given notice of previous inspections.
