Exam levels have always been unfair. The different O level boards in my day varied immensely in difficulty. I grew up in Surrey and had the misfortune to take all the hardest exam boards in every subject. I had friends elsewhere who took much easier exams that counted as being the same as mine. It is extremely unfair. WJEC have sought to raise standards in English Language by getting rid of an entire paper and halving the exam. Surely teaching the students better should have been the answer? People passing this exam are not at the same level as those taking other boards for their GCSEs and this is unfair.
