  • When I was going to school, we learned that a Noun was the name of a person, place, thing or animal.... I notice for a while now, that a noun only names a person, place or thing - putting animals into the "thing" category... I think this is wrong and as the posters are being placed in classrooms the world over, children should NOT be thinking of our animal friends as "things"..... Surely they have the right to being named as "animals" in the noun section, as we do as "persons". They are not inanimate "objects" or "things".... They live, breathe, feel joy, pain and sadness too. Thank you.

    • Hi sammycat2,
Thank you very much for commenting! It's great to hear from you. In this resource, we are using non-capitalized animal names for regular or generic nouns e.g. 'owl'. For an individual species, you would capitalize this as a proper noun e.g. Barn Owl. I hope you have a lovely day :)

  • In addition to my earlier message, I have also noticed that the PowerPoints with Veronica Verb, Adil Adverb, etc are also in different colours to the word mats and the definition cards. It would be nice to have them all co-ordinated so that the same theme runs throughout.

  • A great resource, but I agree with YSJ_KS comment on Jan 15th... these would be far better coordinated with the adjectives, adverb and verb word mats.

  • It would be better if these were the same colour as the word mats on here. It would help children know which colour to look for when finding a word on them if they were the same colour in the board.
The mats I use (downloaded from here) are:
    adjectives- red
    verbs-green
    adverbs- blue

(we don't have a noun one but it suppose that one could be the yellow one?)
