    • Hey there Missb, thanks for commenting! I've passed your comment along to be looked into with teach_92's :)

    • Hi there missb12, thanks for your comment! We have made some amendments to this resource. :)

      , Aug 11th
  • This is fine from a literacy point of view, but from a mathematical viewpoint it's reinforcing misconceptions about shapes. We really need to be introducing non-prototypical (shapes that aren't in the "normal" layout, e.g. all with a flat horizontal base - a square on its point is still a square) and irregular versions of shapes right from the start (even in Year 1) otherwise it just confuses kids later on (there's research that tells us this).

    , Feb 27th
  • Hi there Piggywig! I can see that having both the rectangle and the oblong could be confusing, I have asked the lovely Ashton if she will make a couple of alternative versions for the resource so that you can have a mat with just the oblong on. Please be patient, they will be up soon! :)

    , Jan 25th
  • I like this resource but in our school we teach that a rectangle is an oblong and rectangle is the group name. Is there the option of this resource with the word Oblong on it?

    , Jan 14th
An attractive word mat featuring all the common 2D shape names and accompanying pictures. A great aid for independent writing - why not laminate for re-use? Also available in cursive and precursive.

Why not also check out our lovely 2d shape resources?

This resource is available in Standard, Cursive, Diamond, Precursive, Oblong, Eco Black and White, Rhombus, Higher Ability, Editable and Dyslexia.
