  • I am a little confused by question i.  It seems to require them to be able to add 5 two digit numbers to find the total of girls.  15 + 12 + 17 + 13 + 16
    Then it requires them to calculate the number of boys altogether so 13 + 15 + 11 + 18 + 14.
Then finally they need to find the difference between the totals. Which is 2.
Finding the difference between the two totals is simple, however the addition of 5 two digit numbers and then another set of 5 two digit numbers seems to be above Year 2 expectations.  Does the Year Two curriculum require that they should be able to add five two digit numbers?  Has there been a mistake?  My 7 year old was left rather frustrated with this assessment.  We home educate overseas and try to follow the UK curriculum please something seems off with this question.

    • Hi there,
We have checked this resource and amended it as you were correct - adding this many numbers was a bit much for lovely year 2s! We hope you like the amended version :)

Written to assess the Year 2 aims in the 2014 Curriculum for Maths. The aims addressed by each question are clearly stated and a marking scheme provided. This is one of three assessments for Statistics, allowing you to use a different test each term. Each test assesses the age related expectations against which you can record a child's progress, the tests are not progressive in difficulty. Why not use the assessments alongside our assessment spreadsheets to track progress?
