  • HiI have noticed that when working out 'the using the inverse to solve problems' sheet that some calculations bridge  into the next ten which makes it difficult for the ks1 children to solve. For example_____ + 59 =  84If the child subtracted 84 - 59 using the column method, they would not be able to do this without exchanging.Any chance you could produce the same sheets that do not involve children exchanging to work out the calculations? Thanks

    • Hi MLDawson,
That sounds like a fabulous idea! I will pass this over to our lovely teacher to team to see if this is something they can do :)

  • This may be a silly suggestion but with subtraction you can only use the inverse operation when the missing number is the at the start (e.g. the largest number) You need to subtraction when the second number is missing. e.g. 70-__= 50
You would need to do 70-50. Is there any way you could produce resources to demonstrate this. Ellie

    • Hi there, thanks for getting in touch. When you are using inverse operation with subtraction, all you need to do is take the largest number first and the subtract the smallest number, the difference will be the missing number in the number sentence. I hope that this makes it clearer, but if there is anything else that we can help you with, then please do get back in touch. Have a lovely day :)
