  • Bit confused about this resource. Sounds such as 'tr' are two separate sounds. Also if a child is deaf enough to use BSL, they will struggle to read using phonics as they cant hear the sounds so need to learn through word recognition and spelling rather than sounding out.

We are currently looking at how we can improve our BSL phonics resources and provide materials that will be more suitable for deaf students. If you have any suggestions for how we can help you and how to improve the BSL resources, please don't hesitate to contact us by emailing resources@twinkl.co.uk

This handy pack of flashcards cover the main sounds for all five phases with an image to illustrate each word. Great for a variety of activities, you could use them for inspiration during independent writing activities, as a spelling aid, to start discussions about the topic, and more. (Please note: British Sign Language has many regional dialects and the signs used in this resource may differ from the ones in your area.)
