  • I want to use these for the children to pick one card for each of the '5 w's' in order to create a fictional newspaper report - just missing the why cards. Will have to be creative tomorrow. Thanks for the resource!

  • This is fab but was wondering if it would be possible to change the border colours so they link to the Colourful Semantics colours? Orange (who?), yellow (doing what?), green (what?), blue (where?). Would be so useful for my EAL/SEN. Thanks!

  • I plan to use this to teach the question words with EAL pupils. I will add pictures to make it more comprehensive. We will use it as a build up to comprehension work.

This activity supports the development of sentences and early narrative. The elements of the sentence are colour coded to match the question word resources (who = pink, what doing = purple, where = blue, when = green). This aims to support word order in sentences. The cards can be cut out and used to create silly sentences. These sentences can then be used to support the understanding of question words e.g., Who went swimming? What is the superhero doing?
