  • A quibble with this resource! James I of England was also James VI of Scotland! The gunpowder plot was against the British rather than just the English monarchy. It is said that when the king was made aware of the plot against him he told the soldiers to look in the cellars of the Houses of Parliament because the was where a bomb was left to kill his father, Lord Darnley. I just feel there is a big Scottish element to the story.
