Objective Students will learn that it’s important for a business to advertise if it wants to succeed.

Every business needs to promote itself to sell products, and to distinguish itself from the competition. When a business advertises, it builds its brand and gains a larger share of the customer’s mind.

Introduce the activity scenario. Ask students to think about the types of advertising they are familiar with and which types influence their purchasing decisions. Is it Internet or television marketing? How about radio or print ads? How might a store’s sales change as
    it advertises more?

    1. Have your child create an ad campaign for a new pair of sneakers, and sketch out the design on paper. Ask: What will you name the sneakers? Will a special character or celebrity help sell them? Can you come up with a fun slogan or cool logo to sell your product?

If students are ready to move on...

    2. Some businesses create jingles, or catchy phrases, to build customer awareness of their products. Encourage the students to think of some popular jingles they associates with certain products.

Then have them choose a product or service, and write a short jingle about it like Warren did for the car wash:
"If you want to help a high school band
    Get your car washed now
    We do it by hand!"

Let the kids perform the jingle for the class.
