  • This looks useful but one of the suffixes is not correct: in the example 'sunny', the suffix should be '-er' but is down as '-ier'. This is confusing the spelling rule (change y to i) with the correct suffix. The same goes for the examples 'funny + iest' and 'copy + ier', which should read -est/ -er.

Children are given the spelling rules for adding suffixes beginning with vowel letters to words of more than one syllable. They then have to apply the rules when adding suffixes to root words.
