  • Hi there, is there any chance some answers can be produced to match the activities please.

    • Hi anna.jutsum,

Thanks for your lovely request - I'll ask our design team to take a look and see if we can make an answer sheet for you :)

  • I am unable to open the worksheets file.  Can you advise?

  • There are a couple of mistakes on the PowerPoint version. On the second slide it says, 'Here are two examples...' but there are actually three. On the third slide it says, 'Only out brackets...' instead of 'Only put brackets...'

  • Introducing parenthesis to Y5s.  I really like the differentiated worksheets.

  • Great. Thanks. What about simply, "The Blue Jays, based in Toronto, are a Canadian baseball team"? Not too confusing? Shying away from difficult or confusing situations is not how I'd encourage my students to learn. In fact, I've taken this situation as a learning example to demonstrate to my pupils that if they face something that is tricky or they don't understand, they can either decide to 'go around it' and do something different or face the problem and conquer it. So in a roundabout way, thank you. :)

    • Hi toronto,
For simplicity's sake we've already amended the resource for you by changing the team. However if you would still like us to amend the sentence to the one that you have suggested then please do let me know and I will ask our resource team if we are able to do this for you.
If there is anything else we can help with, do let us know. Have a great day and thank you so much for taking the time to share your suggestion with us!

  • That is such a shame that you've not simply changed the wording to be a Canadian team. The confusion probably lies in the fact that they play in the division called "The American League East". Wouldn't it have been nice to simply correct the mistake rather than taking the easier of option of changing it completely? :(

    • I'm sorry we've disappointed you, toronto.
Correcting the mistake wasn't as simple as switching one word for another as to correct 'are an American league baseball team' to 'play baseball in the American League East' in order to avoid the confusion would have put the text across two lines, which wouldn't fit on the sheet, so it was a design decision I'm afraid!
If you'd like to give us an alternative sentence you'd prefer to see (that will fit in the space!) please let us know and we'll do one just for you :).

  • I've just downloaded the worksheets and I can assure you that the Toronto Blue Jays (as one of their biggest fans, who happens to be from there) are 100% a Canadian team that plays in both Canada and the US. Please correct because saying they are based in America or American (as the current worksheet says) is simply incorrect.

    • Hi there woodlandwomble46,
The Blue Jays are a Canadian baseball team that plays in America - this was altered to be made clearer originally but I have now changed the team to one that is based in America and plays in America to make matters simpler! I hope you find the new version useful.

In this lesson pack, the informative PowerPoint explains how parentheses should be marked and the different types of parentheses that can occur (single words, phrases and whole sentences). Children can then practice marking parentheses with brackets in the accompanying differentiated activity.
