  • I agree with Oakwood 123 actually. I recognise that it's supposed to present tense, but we would not speak that way. "must have already smellED works" but "must have already smells" is not correct tense agreement. I can't quite work out what the correct wording should be but I have changed it on my own worksheet to say "already smells" which would change to "already smelled". Otherwise a great resource.

    • Hi there, as my colleague Michaela has already pointed out, the children need to spot that the verb is incorrect and change it to 'smelled'. The verb 'smells' is in the present tense and 'smelled' would be the correct verb is the past tense. I hope that this makes this clearer for you. If you have any other questions about this resource, please do get back in touch. Have a lovely day :)

  • Great resource to support consistent verb tense usage, however the sentence "Then I see what he must have already smells" is incorrect, surely? Should it not read "Then I see what he must have already smelled"?

    • Hi Oakwood123,
      Thanks for getting in touch!

The children are required to change the relevant verbs into the past tense so that the passage still makes sense. Therefore, smells has been intentionally included so that the children are required to recognise that it needs to be changed to the past tense.

I hope this helps but please let me know if I can help you further.

      Have a lovely evening! :)
