  • I couldn't get the image to appear when I put a glass on top of the sticker at first. It appears that this may have something to do with my glass having a thick rim of glass at the bottom. It was hard to find a drinking glass without a thick rim of glass at the bottom (this appears to be common on most of my glasses!). When I tried it with a glass that didn't have this, I could see the image through the side and it disappeared when I put water on, which was quite exciting. Nothing happened when I put a saucer on. But the disappearing was quite exciting nonetheless!
In the first experiment, my arrow distorted, but did not turn upside down.
The experiments are good, to show refraction, but I found that the scientific explanations on the Power Point, didn't match my findings.

This lesson pack gives children the opportunity to explore the fascinating effects of refraction. They will find out about how light travels differently through glass and water, and how this effects what we see.
