  • The structure of this resource is generally well done, but I feel that the letter's subject - an application for a job at 'Funtown' - is juvenile and childish, and that a number of KS4 students would trivialise the subject material. Secondly, the nature of the Paper 2 question is tied closely to an extract and has a specific phrasing. This task doesn't have these features, and it is therefore less useful for a GCSE-specific session; it seems much better pitched to a KS3 class.

    • Hi grubeansage,
Thank you so much for getting in touch! It's lovely to hear from you :) I will pass your comments onto the teacher who created this, and get them to take a look at it :)

    • Hi again,
This resource has now been re-categorised as KS3 :) I hope this helps!

  • This powerpoint doesn't show the layout of a formal letter such as the position of the addresses and the date. It also doesn't show how to start the letter or end it. I think it would be far better if there was some form of modelling for pupils.

    • Hi celticgirl,
That's a lovely idea! I'll ask our teacher team about this for you :)

    • Hello celticgirl, this is just the planning lesson for the formal letter, hence it concentrates on content. The second lesson which can be found here: https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t4-e-177-writing-a-formal-letter-lesson-2-drafting shows the correct layout and gives pupils an example with mistakes in it for them to correct. This activity sheet also models the correct layout and opening/endings. This is a KS4 lesson and so has less step by step instructions as a certain amount of knowledge would be expected by then.

If you would like a formal letter writing lesson aimed at KS3 please let us know and we can do this :).
